Court records show the former IT specialist copied classified information into a notepad, hid the pages in his socks and put them on a thumb drive.

WASHINGTON — A former IT specialist for the Department of Defense pleaded guilty to sharing classified information with a foreign government, the Department of Justice said Thursday.

Nathan Vilas Laatsch, 29, of Alexandria, Virginia, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of attempting to transmit national defense information to an officer or agent of a foreign government, an Espionage Act offense. Laatsch did not successfully contact the foreign nation but offered to provide the records.
