Labor Day travel expected to cost more this year as airfare, hotel prices rise

WASHINGTON — Americans heading out for Labor Day weekend will face higher airfare, hotel prices and potentially pricier gas than a year ago, according to AAA’s annual Labor Day travel report. If you’re planning travel for the weekend, here’s what to know about the rising costs.

Domestic roundtrip airfare is averaging $750 this year, up 2% from last Labor Day. For the most popular destinations, prices are nearly 20% higher, averaging $790. Hotel costs are also climbing, with domestic bookings up 9% and international hotel prices up 12% compared to last year.
