WACONIA, Minn. — Officials in Waconia have closed a beach at a popular park because of poor water quality.

Routine testing found a suspected blue-green algae bloom at Lake Waconia Regional Park, according to a release.

The following activities are not permitted at the beach during the closure:

  • Swimming
  • Wading
  • Launching watercraft

Blue-green algae is commonly found at low levels in many Minnesota lakes, but under certain conditions, especially when water is warm, the bacteria can form into blooms and become toxic.
