The Minneapolis City Council on Thursday unanimously passed a measure that bars businesses from enforcing a dress code if one is not clearly posted.
The ordinance wouldn’t apply to health and safety regulations, such as “no shirt, no shoes, no service.” Businesses that don’t enforce a dress code are exempt.
While discussing the ordinance in committee, council members said posted dress codes would clarify the expectations of patrons before they go in an establishment.
“If you got a dress code, post it. If you don’t, don’t worry about it,” Council Member Pearll Warren said during an Aug. 18 meeting of the Business, Housing and Zoning Committee.
